The independent senator Emilio Álvarez Icaza launched against Claudia Sheinbaum and Andrés Manuel López Obrador, whom he held responsible in the event that elements of the National Guard suffer an accident in the Mexico City Metro. To show the risk they are running, he shared a video in which the military went down the tracks apparently without following a security protocol.
National Guard will arrive at Metro stations after accidents
The Head of Government, Claudia Sheinbaum, reported that the elements of the National Guard will be deployed at the stations starting at 2:00 p.m. this Thursday, January 12.
In the recording shared by the legislator, a group of national guards and elements of the National Defense Secretariat (Sedena) can be seen on a platform. One of the latter went down to the tracks to lift an object.
Álvarez Icaza condemned that “they went down to the tracks without any protection or knowledge” to deal with an alleged sabotage at the service of the Metro Collective Transportation System (STCM).
He also pointed out that Claudia Sheinbaum, head of government of Mexico City, and the president are responsible for the integrity of the GN staff, since they were the ones who approved their presence in the Metro.

Protesters also demanded justice for Yaretzi, the young woman who died in the STC train crash
“@Claudiashein and #AMLO will be responsible if soldiers or guards suffer a fatal accident at @MetroCDMX,” said the senator.
Although it is not known when this video was recorded or why there were soldiers, the truth is that it was made known in the midst of the criticism unleashed by the arrival of the National Guard at the STCM, which was announced on the morning of the 12th of January by Sheinbaum.

The Head of Government argued that the GN will be at the Metro facilities in the subsequent months due to the incidents that have affected the service in recent days. For his part, López Obrador explained that in this way passengers would be given the certainty that there will be no provoked incidents.

The protesters showed their disagreement with the presence of the GN, made pints and jumped the turnstiles
“What we want is for there to be no psychosis that, on top of all the daily problems they have to face, is concerned about an accident on the Metro and that it could be caused,” he said during his press conference.
After the announcement, politicians opposed to the self-styled Fourth Transformation (4T) and citizens accused that it was a measure to militarize this space, in addition to ensuring that the Metro needs maintenance more than surveillance.

48 hours after the National Guard began operations in the Metro, director Guillermo Calderón reported that they have detected “atypical or intentional” events in the network, such as that of a person who threw a can of beer at the Santa Anita station, on the Line 8; as well as in the detection of the theft of 45 meters of cable at the La Raza and Potrero stations, this after subjects entered through the ventilation grills during the early morning.
Calderón made this statement during a press conference on the occasion of the reopening of the underground section of Line 12 of the Metro. Martí Batres, Secretary of Government, participated in this event, who ruled out that the failures are sabotage but, like Calderón, mentioned that many are due to provoked events.
“There are investigations that the Prosecutor’s Office (General Justice of the CDMX) is following and investigations are going to be carried out seriously, in depth. What we are pointing out is that they are events caused, in some cases, premeditated by someone, and other strange, rare events that do not occur regularly, ”he added.
