In circumstances that are being investigated, María Mercedes Gnecco was murdered in the San Andrés and Providencia archipelago. The main suspect, according to the authorities, has been her husband, who was captured in June of last year to answer for this crime.
Although the accused of the murder assures that it was some thieves who shot his wife outside her home on the island, the Prosecutor’s Office has disputed his version, stating that through analysis with 3D technologies, the bullet that blinded the woman’s life it was fired at very close range.
“If the shot had come from outside, the area where the bullet hit him should have been in the neck, not in the back as it really happened. All this led to the jurist being charged with the crimes of aggravated homicide; manufacturing, trafficking and carrying or possession of firearms; ideological falsehood of a private document; and concealment, alteration or destruction of evidentiary material.
Since June 30, 2022, Gnecco has been deprived of his liberty in the La Picota prison in Bogotá, after being sheltered with an insurance measure.
