Jürgen Klopp left no stone unturned from Liverpool on Saturday after the blistering 3-0 defeat at Brighton & Hove Albion in the Premier League. The coach of ‘The Reds’ does not understand that his team has fallen through the lower limit.
“It was bad, very bad,” Klopp concluded in conversation with English media. “I really can’t remember a worse game of ours. It was clear that one team was ready to play a very good game. The other team was fighting with itself.”
At halftime it was still 0-0 at the Amex Stadium, but in the second half things went terribly wrong for the team of Premier League debutant Cody Gakpo. Solly March scored twice in six minutes and Danny Welbeck made the defeat of the battered Liverpool in the final phase even more painful.
Klopp missed Virgil van Dijk, Luis Díaz and Darwin Núñez against Brighton, among others, but the German did not want to use that as an excuse. “Yes, we have personnel problems. But the team that kicked off was not bad at all. We have to be creative with the options we have at hand.”

‘It was horrible to watch’
Partly due to the limited options, Klopp decided to play against Brighton in a slightly different way. He soon regretted that. “I wanted to change the formation a bit to help the team. Sometimes that went well, but it often didn’t work because we lost the ball too quickly.”
“It is my responsibility that we played something different than usual. The outcome was terrible to watch. We make the same mistakes in several games: we don’t win the important duels and we lose the ball too easily,” Klopp was disappointed.
Concerns are now rapidly mounting for Liverpool. The national champion of the 2019/2020 season not only has sixteen points less than leader Arsenal, but is also seven points away from the top four. Only the top four teams qualify for the Champions League.
“We should all be very concerned. We are at the lowest point, so improving ourselves can’t be too difficult,” Klopp concluded in a cynical tone.
