The former Justice Minister of Jair Bolsonaro, Anderson Torres, is arrested after his return to Brazil. Anderson Torres was wanted by virtue of a Supreme Court order for his alleged “connivance” with the thousands of followers of the far-right who attacked the headquarters of the three powers in Brasilia on Sunday.
The Minister of Justice had given his predecessor until Monday to turn himself in.
“We will wait until Monday for its presentation to the Court to take place,” explained Flavio Dino. “The document found in his residence is a link in a series of events that begin on October 30, the day of the second round of elections, and end on January 8.”
Like Bolsonaro, Torres was in Florida, in the United States, during the riots. He is also charged with “omission” in his most recent job as the capital’s security chief, from which he was fired after the riot.
For his part, the former president will be investigated by the Brazilian Supreme Court as the “intellectual author” of the attempted coup against Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva.
Due to the attacks by the Bolsonaristas, who had been camped for two months in front of the Army headquarters in Brasilia, more than 1,800 people have been arrested and a series of investigations have been opened against politicians and businessmen accused of financing them.
