The controversies and criticisms surrounding the operation of the Mexico City Metro (CDMX) Collective Transportation System (STC) have returned the Head of Government, Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo, to the eye of the hurricane.
“They have already militarized the Metro”: they struck down Sheinbaum for a new task of the GN after “out of the ordinary events”
The capital’s president indicated that after the “out of the ordinary” events that have occurred in the Metro, she asked President López Obrador to deploy elements in the STC stations
A few days after the underground section of Line 12 is reopened – after almost two years of being closed -, the capital’s president reported the deployment of elements of the National Guard (GN) in the 12 service routes, as well as in other facilities of the busiest transport in the metropolis.
In total, the CDMX Government will have more than six thousand soldiers in the face of the series of “out of the ordinary” incidents, according to the capital, reported at various service stations in recent days; a measure that was approved by President Andrés Manuel López Obrador (AMLO) himself, but disapproved by various opposition personalities, such as the controversial senator, Lilly Téllez.

The Head of Government, Claudia Sheinbaum, reported that the institution will be deployed in the system to guarantee the safety of users
In this sense, Téllez disqualified the decision after asserting that some areas of the Republic are unprotected due to the lack of the presence of the National Guard, “and today they are going to allocate 6,000 to the subway to satisfy the paranoia of sabotage,” he wrote.
With this, the blue and white criticized – in order to highlight the irony – that the STC Metro of the capital will have more security than entities of the country constantly hit by the wave of violence, pointing specifically to Sonora – one of the points where cartels control the drug trafficking to the United States (USA), such as fentanyl.
“The CDMX Metro is going to have more elements of the GN than the state of Sonora, which burns with violence.”

Although the Morenista president clarified that the presence of the elements “will be for a few months,” the opposition was quick to accuse her of perpetuating the militarization of the country.
National Guard will arrive at Metro stations after accidents
The Head of Government, Claudia Sheinbaum, reported that the elements of the National Guard will be deployed at the stations starting at 2:00 p.m. this Thursday, January 12.
In anticipation of these comments, Andrés Manuel – at the same conference – supported the decision of the also candidate for the 2024 presidency and assumed the responsibility of militarizing the country: “If they call that militarization, we assume the responsibility because it is better to prevent What a regret”, he asserted in his morning on January 12.
However, the argument of the decision was not convincing for the also PAN militants Xóchitl Gálvez and Javier Lozano, who stressed that the safety of the users of the STC Metro will only be guaranteed with more investment of resources and constant maintenance: “Militarize the Metro does not solve any problem”, the senator wrote in her official account.
“The Metro needs maintenance, technology, operation, coordination, professionalism and a sense of responsibility. Thinking that things are resolved with the National Guard is a real clumsiness with an authoritarian stink.”
