Feyenoord simply qualified for the eighth finals of the KNVB Cup on Thursday. The team from Rotterdam quickly fell behind against PEC Zwolle thanks to a beautiful goal by Haris Medunjanin, but then repaired the damage: 3-1.
Feyenoord started weakly and after three minutes got a great goal from Medunjanin. The 37-year-old midfielder of the Kitchen Champion Division club hit from more than 20 meters beyond goalkeeper Justin Bijlow’s reach.
Arne Slot’s team had already turned the backlog at the break. Basic debutant Mats Wieffer and Danilo made it 2-1 at halftime. In the second half, the Brazilian brought Feyenoord to a safe haven.
Zwolle came close to the tying goal via, among other things, a header from Gervane Kastaneer, but Bijlow saved with a cat-like reflex.
Feyenoord will be concerned about defender Dávid Hancko, who had to leave the field with a shoulder injury. Slot cannot rely on injured Gernot Trauner and Quinten Timber in the coming months.
Feyenoord was the last club to reach the eighth finals of the cup tournament on Thursday. The draw awaits on Saturday evening, including three amateur clubs: De Treffers, Spakenburg and Katwijk.

Feyenoord quickly behind
Slot made some changes compared to the draw against FC Utrecht (1-1) last Sunday. Lutsharel Geertruida was center back with Hancko, while Quilindschy Hartman was left back at the expense of Marcos López. Midfielder Wieffer made his starting debut.
First goalkeeper Bijlow was ‘normally’ lined up in the cup game, but had to fish after three minutes. Medunjanin was given plenty of room by the Feyenoord defense to produce an unsustainable target from a distance.
Zwolle could therefore hope for a stunt in De Kuip, but soon the home crowd could cheer again. Wieffer added luster to his basic debut by tapping into the 1-1 from close range.
The 23-year-old midfielder also played an important role in the 2-1 by putting Danilo in position. The Brazilian striker was able to shoot in the second half after Alireza Jahanbakhsh pushed through.
Feyenoord then simply finished the game, but still had to take a setback. Hancko injured his shoulder in a duel and left the field in pain.
Feyenoord will play the next match in the Eredivisie on Sunday and then take on FC Groningen. The northerners blamed themselves earlier in the evening by losing 2-3 at home to amateur club Spakenburg.
