PSV coach Ruud van Nistelrooij opts for three new names on Tuesday in the away match against Sparta in the second round of the TOTO KNVB Cup. Goalkeeper Walter Benítez, defender Armando Obispo and midfielder Joey Veerman have been placed on the bench.
The positions of Benítez, Obispo and Veerman are filled by Joël Drommel, André Ramalho and Érick Gutiérrez respectively. The other eight names are the same as on Saturday, when PSV also played against Sparta in the Eredivisie.
That game in Eindhoven ended in 0-0. A striking moment that evening was the substitution of Veerman, who was taken aside in the second half. The midfielder showed his displeasure in word and gesture, although Van Nistelrooij said not to take it too seriously. So Veerman is on the couch on Tuesday.
Jordan Teze and Philipp Max are again PSV’s wing defenders against Sparta. Xavi Simons acts as playmaker, supported by Ibrahim Sangaré, among others. Noni Madueke, Luuk de Jong and Anwar El Ghazi form the vanguard, just like Saturday.
Sparta coach Maurice Steijn will have a good feeling about the draw in Eindhoven on Saturday. He made no changes to his lineup.
Sparta-PSV kicks off at 9 p.m. The winner qualifies for the eighth finals of the cup tournament. The game is led by referee Serdar Gözübüyük.
