The six Makro stores in our country have been declared bankrupt. The Antwerp corporate court declared the bankruptcy of parent company Makro Cash & Carry Belgium on Tuesday morning. About 1,400 people will lose their jobs due to the bankruptcy. Wilson Wellens, secretary of the liberal trade union ACLVB, confirms this.

The bankruptcy was filed on Monday evening, and was pronounced Tuesday morning. The shops had been closed since the end of December, but it was still waiting for the final curtain to fall. So that happened on Tuesday.
In addition to Makro stores, the group also consisted of businesses (Metro) for catering wholesalers. Those eleven stores have been taken over.
