Due to the mild weather, people are already experiencing hay fever complaints and that is earlier than normal.
“The hazel tree is blooming all over the country,” says biologist Arnold van Vliet. He refers to a graph on Natuurkalender.nl, with the flowering date of the hazel from the year 1868 up to and including 2022.
“For a long time, that flowering date was on average February 15, in recent years the peak was around the turn of the year and now it could be that the peak turns out to be before the turn of the year.”
Temperature up quickly
The alders also bloom, which can lead to even more complaints for people with hay fever. “The alder produces more pollen, which also causes more problems,” says the biologist. “Certainly when the black alder starts to bloom, the complaints can increase.”
The early flowering plants and trees are a result of the mild weather in October and November. “Then it came to a standstill for a while due to the short period of cold, but then it became soft again.”
Warm due to clouds
The last few weeks the weather has been gloomy, with occasional sunny moments. Tonight the clouds will increase again from the southwest due to a new warm front moving towards the Netherlands. “As soon as the clouds also extend over these regions, the temperature rises to a level where it has been more often in recent times, namely about 10 degrees,” the weather site writes.
This weekend it will be between 10 and 12 degrees. It can cool down due to nighttime clearance, but the freezing point is not reached. Where it remains cloudy, the difference between the maximum and minimum temperature is smallest.
