A mass grave has been found in Lyman in eastern Ukraine, according to local authorities. Governor Pavlo Kirilenko says it is unclear how many bodies are in the grave. The Ukrainian news agency Ukrinform reports that 180 people were killed. This number is said to have been mentioned by a police officer.
Lyman is a strategically important place. The Russian army admitted last weekend that the place has been recaptured by Ukraine. Elsewhere in eastern Ukraine, too, the government says it has made territorial gains over the Russians.
Last month, Ukraine reported finding a mass grave in the city of Izium. Hundreds of bodies were found in a suburb of Kyiv this spring after the Russians withdrew. The find sparked international outrage.
