Crime in Bogotá has increased in recent years, according to robbery and homicide figures from local authorities. One of the manifestations of violence that has scared citizens the most and that has created a red alert for the authorities are the bodies that have been found in garbage bags in some areas of the capital.
In the midst of the investigations and the monitoring of the gangs, in charge of this type of heinous acts, the Police found that in the center of the capital, more precisely on Calle 24 with Avenida Caracas, just in front of the TransMilenio station of Calle 22, there was a house that was used by one of the gangs that has been in charge of taking control of micro-trafficking in the city, the Maracuchos, to torture and murder several people who represented a “danger” for the criminal organization of Venezuelan origin.
One of the striking facts of this case is that ironically, as the mayor Claudia López herself mentioned, is that this property belongs to a government institution, SAE (Special Assets Company), but it had been abandoned and this was taken advantage of. the structure to later turn it into a center of criminal acts.
As the authorities have stated in multiple investigations, the modus operandi used by this type of structure has two purposes: to show power before its adversaries through the violence exerted on the bodies of the victims, and to gain dominance in some areas, especially in those where they are strategic. For example, Santa Fe is key because it is not only in a central area, but it is also surrounded by properties that can hide crimes.
Due to what the space presented to many people and that the structure of the house was abandoned, finally, the district decided to demolish it and this process was carried out two days ago; At that time, the same authorities had indicated that in that building, the aforementioned criminal structure perpetrated several homicides.
“Four cases of ‘pocketing’ this year were clarified. With the criminalistics group of the Sijín (Criminal Investigation Section of the Police), applying all these reagents, the blood and all these elements were found. Indeed, if there were some real issues, of a large scale of violence against the victims, ”said José Manuel Martínez, director of the Bogotá branch of the Attorney General’s Office, in that newscast.
It was even emphasized that this would be just one of the properties in the area that the Maracuchos had used to perpetrate their crimes, so they will seek to destroy several of the surrounding properties.
“That building, and in fact that entire block a couple of blocks to the north, (…) must be demolished for the subway works,” Aníbal Fernández de Soto explained.
Let us remember that, in addition, they found that the reason why the bodies appeared in other parts of the city was to mislead the authorities of their real location, this by order of alias Lobo, the leader of the gang in the capital.
“They left these bodies abandoned on public roads in order to remove them from the Santa Fe neighborhood sector and move them away in a way that they could not be found by the National Police and the investigative bodies. Alias Lobo was one of the main leaders of this structure in order to organize the sector to protect it from the sale of narcotics carried out by this structure and settle accounts within the same structure when some of the members committed various events of which they did not care. He served this gang to continue committing crimes,” the Police pointed out.
For now, the authorities continue their investigation, but there are people in the area who denounce that despite the progress and closures, criminals and gangs continue to dominate this part of the city.
