Hundreds of ultra-Orthodox men blocked a major intersection in Jerusalem on Thursday to protest attempts to compel them to perform Israeli military service.
Military service is compulsory for most Israeli Jews, but ultra-orthodox are usually exempted to continue his religious studies.
The exemptions infuriate other Israelis, but ultra-Orthodox communities they have rejected repeated attempts to force them to join.
During the protest, black-clad protesters blocked traffic at an intersection near the entrance to the city amid chants of “I will not join the army of destruction.”
Police said they were trying to restore order. No acts of violence were reported.
