Casper Ruud qualified for the ATP Finals on Thursday. The number two in the world secured the ticket by reaching the quarterfinals at the ATP tournament in Seoul.
23-year-old Ruud was too strong for Chilean Nicolás Jarry in the South Korean capital with 6-2, 3-6 and 6-3. The Norwegian will meet Japan’s Yoshihito Nishioka in the quarterfinals.
Earlier this month, Ruud was in the final of the US Open. In it he lost to Spaniard Carlos Alcaraz, who also won the battle for the number one position in the world ranking. Ruud was also a losing finalist at Roland Garros this year.
Ruud is the third player to ensure participation in the ATP Finals. Earlier, Alcaraz and his compatriot Rafael Nadal already qualified for the prestigious year-end tournament.
The ATP Finals will take place in Turin from 13 to 20 November. At the year-end tournament, the best eight tennis players of this season will compete against each other.
Last year, Alexander Zverev captured the title at the ATP Finals. Ruud, who was also active in the battle for the Laver Cup last weekend, failed in the semi-finals on his debut.
