EA and Koei Tecmo have unveiled Wild Hearts, the Monster Hunter-esque action game from the Dynasty Warriors developer, set for release on February 17, 2023.
Through a new trailer, we got a first look at the game coming to PS5, Xbox Series X/S and PC (and an expanded gameplay reveal will come on October 5). The game takes place in Azuma – in a fantasy version of feudal Japan – where teams of three players have to fight against giant beasts called Kemono”, using action combat and making traps.
We learned more about these crafting options, especially compared to the Monster Hunter model, and why Koei teamed up with EA for Wild Hearts in an interview with Koei Tecmo directors Kotaro Hirata and Edagawa-san.
Wild Hearts can be played alone or in co-op with crossplay on all platforms. Your character will be nearly defeated by a wolf called Death Stalker, after which you will gain access to technology that will allow you to stay alive and eventually bring balance to the region.
The game is very similar to Monster Hunter, but has an innovation in the form of Karakuri, magical creatures that can help you on your hunt.
The trailer shows the player creating a Karakuri that serves as a platform to jump on, crafting huge hammers and bombs, and even summoning a helicopter to glide through the air. Multiple players can use Karakuri and we see one player making harpoons to pin down the monster.
