During the eighth month of this year 177,132 jobs were created in the country, of which 123,784 (70%) were informalaccording to data published by the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (Inegi).
Thus, the population employed in labor informality reached 31.9 million peoplewhich represents 55.5% of the total employed population, a rate slightly higher than the 55.4% reported a month earlier.
By sex, of the total jobs generated in August, this time women were the most favored with 122.5 thousand positions, while those occupied by men added 54.7 thousand positions.
Among the sectors where the largest number of jobs was created, industry stands out with 340 thousand jobs, followed by the service sector with 104.9 thousand additional jobs, in addition to another 14 thousand not specified. While in the agricultural sector 282 thousand jobs were lost.
By specific activities, where more jobs were created was in the manufacturing industry, with the generation of 279.5 thousand jobs; professional, financial and corporate services, with 189.7 thousand; and in transportation, communications, mail and storage, 150.6 thousand more jobs in the month.
On the contrary, the activities where the most jobs were lost were: commerce with the elimination of 360.7 thousand positions and in government and international organizations with 179.3 thousand fewer positions.
The unemployed population reported an increase of 67.8 thousand people, to reach 2 million 110 thousand at the end of last Augustwith which the unemployment rate stood at 3.5%, a figure slightly higher than the 3.4% observed a month earlier.
In this way, 244.9 thousand people joined the labor market (employed and unemployed) last month, bringing the economically active population to 59.7 million and the participation rate to 60% of the population aged 15 and over.
