At least four people died this Sunday after the shipwreck of a boat with 37 people on board, off the Galapagos Islands in Ecuador.
“Two Ecuadorians, a Colombian and a tourist with dual American-Israeli nationality” were the fatalitiesaccording to the Ecuadorian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The boat covered the route between the islands of Isabela and Santa Cruz. Several passengers were rescued, as indicated by Ángel Yanez, mayor of Santa Cruz.
“The current situation is that 31 passengers were rescued between foreign tourists, national tourists and resident settlersat the moment we have 4 corpses that are already in the morgue in legal proceedings and we are waiting for the search for two crew members who have not appeared so far.
The mayor of the island of Santa Cruz commented that the difficult conditions of the sea could have caused the accident, although the causes are still being investigated.
