Sphere smoothly to European final 400 meters hurdles
Femke Bol has playfully qualified for the final of the 400 meter hurdles at the European Championships in Munich on Thursday afternoon. Friday evening (9.45 pm) she hopes to take a unique double. Then after the gold in the 400 meters on Wednesday evening, she can also take the gold in the 400 meters hurdles.
It happened once before that an athlete won gold in both distances. 118 years ago to be precise: the American Harry Hillman won the 400 meters and the 400 meters hurdles at the 1904 Olympic Games in St. Louis.

Bol was quickly gone after the start and was soon at the head of the field. After that, she was never in danger and she walked unthreatened and with a great display of power to the victory in her semi-final.
“I’m still so happy with my gold medal from yesterday. I don’t think I was really well rested from that final, but apparently with a tired body I can run 53.73 quite easily,” said Bol after her race. “Now I am especially looking forward to the final of the 400 meters hurdles.”
