LOS ANGELES (AP) — Rapper A$AP Rocky has pleaded not guilty to the charge of assault with a firearm after a 2021 argument in Hollywood.
The musician is accused of brandishing a gun and firing it twice in the direction of a former friend during a fight in November last year. He pleaded not guilty Wednesday to two counts of assault with a semi-automatic firearm and was ordered back in court on Nov. 2.
Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Victoria B. Wilson has ordered the rapper, whose real name is Rakim Athelaston Mayers, to stay away from his former friend.
Mayers and two other men fled after he fired shots, police said. He was first arrested for the incident at Los Angeles International Airport on April 20 and was released on bail the same day.
A$AP Rocky was a member of the Harlem hip hop collective A$AP Mob and had his first musical success with the single “Peso” in 2011. His 2013 debut album “Long. Live. A$AP”, reached the first place on the Billboard 200 chart, as did his next production“At. length Last. A$AP” from 2015. He has been nominated for two Grammys.
A$AP Rocky is currently in a relationship with pop superstar Rihanna. They both had their firstborn in May.
