Gaming would never have been this big if platformers like Mario, Banjo Kazooie and Castlevania didn’t exist. We are happy to tell you which fun platform games are included in the Xbox Game Pass.
The Contrast game is a bit older, but very welcome in the Xbox Game Pass. It was made by Compulsion Games and you also know them from, for example, We Happy Few. Contrast lets you play with light and darkness as a puzzle in a romantic, old and unique representation of the 1920s. The city is jazzy and noir which contributes enormously to the atmosphere. The game combines light puzzles with platforming and fun cutscenes and, thanks to its style, it certainly deserves a place in this list. With a playing time of 4 – 5 hours, Contrast is the perfect game to pick up in between.
It’s not necessarily the first title that comes to mind when you think of the platform genre, but Sable has proven itself as a platform game. Sable is mainly about discovering the world, solving puzzles and helping all kinds of people with their problems. During your playthrough you will have to do a lot of scrambling, jumping and dodging to complete the quests. In fact, the climbing and scrambling is actually the biggest part of the game. For example, if you want to explore the region with the cartographer, you’ll have to get to him first and that’s only possible through a platforming session that is different every time. So Sable, go play it.
3. New Super Lucky’s Tale
The little fox Lucky was created in 2016 when it got its own game for the Oculus Rift. Later, Super Lucky’s Tale was created, a non-VR adventure for multiple platforms. Later, the game was further refined and New Super Lucky’s Tale was released, which is a great pleasure for platform fans. So in the game you play Lucky and you visit various beautifully designed and interesting worlds to eventually end up at the Book of Ages. It is classic in design because you have a hub where you can go to the worlds if you have enough points for that one world. The game runs very smoothly and offers a lot of fun environments and characters. Truly a must-play for any platform fan.
2. Psychonauts 2
Psychonauts 2 is the sequel to Psychonauts that came out for the first Xbox in 2005. Psychonauts 2 is about a world where the Psychonauts must defeat evil with their psychic powers. It’s a unique story with super creative characters and richly filled worlds where you can unleash all your platform skills. The sequel, Psychonauts 2, is even better in terms of execution than part 1 (which is also allowed after 16 years of absence). You continue with the character Raz and this time you are presented with even more worlds with the most beautiful graphics the series has seen. Add a very convincing voicecasting to this and you have hours and hours of fun.
1. It Takes Two
It Takes Two was awarded Game of the Year 2021 at the XBNL community, but it also took home the prestigious GOTY award worldwide and on other websites. It Takes Two is a game where you actually see all platform elements from all games come together. The story is about a couple with marital problems, but that is not the most exciting. The husband and wife are turned into dolls of sorts and will have to make their way to their daughter to lift the doll curse. This road takes place in many worlds with many types of gameplay. It really is a fantastic experience and you know what is the best? You have to play this game in co-op which gives you all the fun with a partner. It Takes Two is rightfully the GOTY of 2021.
