Vito van Crooij equaled the fastest goal ever in the Eredivisie in the game between Sparta Rotterdam and AZ on Sunday. The attacker signed for the opening goal within eight seconds.
Almost immediately after the kick-off, Van Crooij was sent into the depths, outplayed goalkeeper Hobie Verhulst and then pushed in. His hit was initially rejected due to alleged offside, but after an intervention by the VAR, the hit still counted.
The 26-year-old Van Crooij equaled the record of Koos Waslander with his goal. As a player for NAC, he scored eight seconds after kick-off against PEC Zwolle in 1982 (1-2 win).
Van Crooij’s goal was also the first goal of the season for Sparta, which drew goalless at sc Heerenveen last week. AZ started the Eredivisie season a week ago with a 2-0 win over Go Ahead Eagles.
The match between Sparta and AZ is still ongoing. The duel at Het Kasteel is the end of the second round in the Eredivisie.
