United States President Joe Bidencondemned the “fierce attack” against the writer Salman Rushdiewho has been hospitalized since Saturday after being stabbed at an event in New York state.
It’s a statementpraised Rushdie for his “refusal to be bullied or silenced” and said that along with his wife Jill and “Americans and people around the world, are praying for his health and recovery.”
Rushdie was seriously injured on Friday when he fHe was stabbed in the neck and abdomen during a literary event in upstate New York. when 24-year-old Hadi Matar lunged onto the stage to attack him.
The writingr is in serious condition, with assisted breathing.
The attack caused worldwide stupor more than 30 years after the religious authorities of Iran considered the book “The Satanic Verses” as blasphemy and Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini ordered Muslims in 1989 to assassinate Rushdie, its author.
The 75-year-old British writer born in Bombay has lived harassed by that death sentence (fatwa) and in the early 2000s he moved to New York, obtaining US citizenship in 2016.
