They reach an agreement between the federal authorities and governors of the southeast and north of the country to be able to reinforce actions against human traffickers –“polleros” – and improve coordination in the protection of migrants based on respect for their human rights.
Agreement reached to protect migrants
This was carried out after a meeting of almost two hours with President Andrés Manuel López Obrador; authorities of the Attorney General of the Republic, the National Migration Institute (INM), the governors of Chiapas, Tabasco, Veracruz, Oaxaca, Sonora and Baja California, as well as prosecutors of these entities, the governor of Oaxaca, Alejandro Murat (PRI) said that the theme of the meeting was migration.
“The migratory issue was discussed, how important progress has been made in coordination with the different ones, both from the north and the south, and how to further improve that coordination, of course, taking care of the life and human rights of the migrants. Of course, forcefully confront human trafficking and smugglers, and of course organized crime,” he asserted.
“The governor of Veracruz, Cuitláhuac García (Morena), said that the governors and the federal authorities are addressing the issue jointly. We help a lot through coordination, all the rulers make the peacebuilding tables and there we agree that migration in one part is taking it, organized crime to commit crimes, extort money, put the lives of migrants at risk and that is why now we are going to seek to collaborate in a more coordinated manner”.
However, Murat Hinojosa highlighted that since 2019 the migratory flows that pass through our country have decreased, but the most important thing is that the policy for which it has been implemented has been effective. to be able to protect our fellow citizens, and, on the other hand, the migrants who always suffer in their human rights due to the actions of smugglers.
The governor of Veracruz said that the state governments have to intervene when it comes to protecting the lives of migrants and they have to do it in a coordinated manner, necessarily, the National Institute of Migration, the prosecutors, governors, governors and the Attorney General of the Republic and In this way, prevent this migrant traffic that endangers their lives.
