Santo Domingo, Aug 8 The Dominican Republic will host the Caribbean Hotel Investment and Operations Summit (Chicos, for its acronym in English) between November 9 and 11, the country’s Tourism Minister, David Collado, reported Monday.
The meeting, to be held in La Romana (this Dominican), is an event that will bring together state participants, investors, operators, suppliers and other members of the tourism value chain.
The participants will take part in panels, business and investment rounds and other activities in support of the growth of the sector and deepening of the commercial ties between its participants.
Among the participants are “the largest hotel chains in the world, together with investment funds and other agents in the international tourism sector,” according to a Tourism note.
In making the announcement, Collado highlighted the importance of the Chicos summit in the country “at a time when the recovery of Dominican tourism is complete and it is projected to reach record figures by the end of the year.”
“If everything continues as it goes, at the end of 2022, the Dominican Republic will receive more than 7.3 million tourists for the first time, a true record,” added the official, in the presence of the president and the director of the organizing firm of the event ( HVS), Parris Jordan and Nicole Roantree, respectively.
The tourist travel sector in the Caribbean for the years 2022 to 2032 will grow 6.7% per year and will generate more than one million new jobs, becoming a positive example of recovery after the covid-19 pandemic, according to recent data of the World Travel and Tourism Council (WWTC). EFE
