For administrative reasons, the first 54 Cuban specialist doctors who arrived in the country hired by the federal government to fill vacancies in remote or marginalized communities they have not been able to start workr; however, this Monday they are expected to begin providing care at the sites to which they were assigned.
The government of Nayarit, where these specialists have been since July 22, stated that the delivery of some necessary documents was being resolved so that foreign doctors can practice in the country.
For his part, the State Secretary of Health, José Francisco Munguía Pérez, explained that during this weekend the 54 doctors They are moving and settling in the assigned communities to be able to take office next Monday.
These first 54 Cuban doctors will be assigned for a period of six months to the communities of Las Varas, in Compostela; Camotlán Bridge, in La Yesca; Jesús María, in the municipality of Del Nayar; San Francisco and Tondoroque, in Bahía de Banderas; and in the municipal capitals of Santiago Ixcuintla, Rosamorada and Ixtlán del Río; In addition, eight of them will attend the Tepic Civil Hospital.
According to information provided by the Nayarit government, the presence of these doctors will strengthen the areas of anesthesiology, general surgery, gynecology and obstetrics, internal medicine and pediatrics in the various hospitals where they will work.
Both the Secretary of Health of Nayarit and the governor of the state, Miguel Ángel Navarro Quintero, have insisted that foreign doctors are not coming to replace Mexican specialists and that their hiring – of which they do not know details because it is a national agreement – This is due to the fact that the vacancies that were offered have not been filled.
In that sense, Munguía Pérez explained that of the 443 vacancies that were offered in Nayarit through the national platform, only 43 spaces were covered.
