Mother and daughters have been missing for more than 6 years.
In 2016, Esthefanny Díaz and her two daughters disappeared after leaving a children’s party in the Ventanilla district. Today, 6 years and 4 months have passed, but no one knows their whereabouts or what happened to them.
Patricia Acosta, Esthefanny’s mother, was in Chile and did not hesitate to return to Peru to request that the investigations continue. She traveled through various regions of the country in order to look for her eldest daughter and her granddaughters.
“I look at the photos and wonder why I didn’t hold the baby more times. Worry and indifference is what kills us. […] I have traveled to Ancash, Pucallpa and other places. I keep knocking on doors and making sit-ins”, the woman told Latina Noticias.
Patricia has not given up, she continues to search for her daughter who was 22 years old, her granddaughters who were 5 years old and 7 months old when they disappeared. Since April 24, she has not found an explanation and asks for support to find out what happened to the loves of her life.
“He didn’t stay at the party for two hours. It is known that her first cousin came to get her out of it and they stayed talking for 15 minutes in a public place. Esthefanny makes calls to her father and tells her that she is going to sleep at the house of a friend of hers. She then she cuts off communication ”, commented.

On the other hand, another case of disappearance is that of Shirley Villanueva, whose whereabouts have not been known for 5 years. The young woman had gone out with some friends to watch the Peru vs. Venezuela in 2017. However, she never returned home.
“It’s been five years without answers, looking for justice, the truth. It’s a very difficult road, but I’m still fighting to find out what happened to my daughter.”said the young woman’s mother, Norma Rivera.
Villanueva’s friends: Bryan Arenas, Joseph Velásquez and Édgar Pozo indicated that their partner drowned in the sea. However, investigations have not continued and the case has been shelved.
Unfortunately, the Ombudsman’s Office registered 2,632 cases of disappearance from January to June 2022. In this figure, the increase in girls and adolescents with figures of 1,800 and 833 adults is worrying. This represents 68% of missing girls and adolescents.
The entity also reported the registration of 431 alert notes by women reported missing in the month of May alone, of which 131 are adults and 300 girls and adolescents, the latter being the most likely to suffer this type of violence.
According to data from the National Police of Peru (PNP), 1,563 reports of disappearance have been registered, of which 921 (59%) were linked to women of all ages; but only 433 were located.
Given this, the Ombudsman considered reinforcing the search measures and that they be attended to in time in order to find them. Likewise, greater emphasis will be placed on girls and adolescents, who not only have a higher rate of disappearance, but also a high number in rape.
