The director of Water and Drainage, Juan Ignacio Barragán Villarreal, stated that a more balanced situation in the distribution of drinking water for the metropolitan area is expected to be achieved by the second half of August.
The official trusted that This will be possible thanks to various actions of the state government and the incorporation of new volumes contributed by the agricultural and industrial sectors, by virtue of the actions taken under the presidential decree of last July 29 that includes the Immediate Action Plan to Address the Drought Emergency.
Barragán Villarreal pointed out that this weekend a meeting will be held between the various actors related to the issue, and next week details will be announced about the wells of the industry and the agricultural sector that will be available for urban public use.
He commented that there is hope that during the second half of August water can be extracted from the Cerro Prieto dam again, since with recent rains it has been slowly but progressively recovering its level, which today has 2,367 million cubic meters.
In addition, according to Governor Samuel García, by carrying out desilting work and canceling illegal intakes, soon Runoff that was lost through the brush or irregular intakes will reach the reservoir.
The director of Water and Drainage explained that with the incorporation of water from the El Chapotal Irrigation Unit, since last July 29, the metropolitan area is receiving between 1,000 and 1,200 liters per second, to supply the south of the city, and with surpluses of this water resource, the pressure modulation program and the contribution to 100% of the wells of the Mina aquifer, in a few more days the situation in the north and west can be alleviated.
Barragán Villarreal explained that they are supplying 11,800 to 12,800 liters per second, and it would be necessary to account for the volumes contributed by the industrial and agricultural sectors.
