There are 12 former officials who have been in prison since the creation of the Jalisco Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office, at the end of November 2018, mainly for abuses of authority and deviations in agencies such as the Pension Institute (Ipejal), the State Water Commission (CEA ), the SIAPA or the Prosecutor’s Office. However, only six are behind bars, headed by Francisco “A”, former president of the Board of Directors of Ipejal and former Secretary of Education in the past administration of Aristóteles Sandoval, who was sent to preventive detention as a precautionary measure last Wednesday.
In the case of Francisco “A” is in jail for “alleged irregularities” while he worked at Ipejal, after a failed investment of 250 million pesos in debt bonds from the construction company Abengoa.
Another of the detainees Antonio “C”, former Secretary of Health. Despite a hundred injunctions, he was arrested on April 13 for possible irregularities for 605 million. Felipe “T” joins, former director of the CEA, who had a valid arrest warrant for not appearing at the previous hearings related to the investigation for the alleged diversion of 58 million pesos in the past administration.
Jose Eduardo “N”, former deputy director of Information Technologies of SIAPA, is linked and in prison for six months for authorizing the payment of 13.6 million pesos for software that never worked.
On the other hand, among the officials who were also arrested, but are now free, are the former head of the Ministry of Development and Social Integration, Miguel “C”, who was given preventive detention in January 2020 after disobeying the home protection, after being linked to a process for the crime of improper use of powers and faculties.
Two police investigators were imprisoned. The Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office initiated a process after the so-called “Halconazo Tapatío” occurred on June 5, 2020, after the death of Giovanni López. The agents of the Attorney General’s Office carried out illegal deprivation of liberty to dozens of young people who came to demonstrate. The two were released after achieving the conditional suspension of the process by complying with a series of measures, such as repairing the damage.
