The search on the Veluwemeer for a missing German father and his child has been discontinued, the Coastguard reports Broadcasting Flevoland. The Coast Guard assumes that the two family members will no longer be found alive and says they are now focusing on finding and recovering their bodies.
The other two members of the family, mother and daughter, were found in the lake south of the island of De Ral and removed from the water. The mother has been resuscitated. Nothing is known about her condition.
The search began around 3 p.m. this afternoon, when police were alerted. The family took a trip in a canoe, which has capsized somewhere on the lake. The canoe was found on the island of De Snip in the Veluwemeer, near Biddinghuizen.
Emergency services were deployed en masse. A Rijkswaterstaat boat searched the area with sonar. A police helicopter and a Coast Guard helicopter were also deployed. Two trauma helicopters were also on the scene earlier.
