The US confirms having killed the leader of Daesh in Syria through a drone attack.
Maher al-Agal was reportedly killed while riding a motorbike in a Turkish-occupied area of Aleppo province.
Al Agal climbed the ranks in the jihadist group to become its leader in Syria and was considered among the five strongest leaders of the self-proclaimed Islamic State.
In the air attack in which there were no civilian casualties, one of the terrorist leader’s close associates was also wounded.
US Central Command said the operation had been extensively planned. Al Agal is said to have been responsible for the development of ISIS networks outside of Iraq and Syria.
