Recognizing that the commitment to connect all the country’s communities to the Internet is still pending, President Andrés Manuel López Obrador assured that Despite its technology, the United States has also not been able to connect all its peoples.
When inaugurating a branch of the Banco del Bienestar in Ocosingo, Chiapas, the President pointed out that the last time he went to the United States, He spoke with Vice President Kamala Harris, whom he asked for her help so that all communities in Mexico have Internet.
He assured that progress has been made in fulfilling his promise and he trusted that before the end of his government “we will achieve communication through the Internet.”
“Notice that at first I thought it was no problem, because they talk too much about technological advance and one thinks that this advance really exists; Well, no, not much progress has been made.. There is not, for example, a satellite that illuminates the entire national territory and through that satellite we can communicate, because if that satellite existed, one, two, three satellites, we hired them and paid an annual fee from the Government of Mexico to the have that satellite, because Internet communication is very important to us”.
“When I last went to the United States and spoke with Vice President Kamala Harris, I told her: ‘Hey, help us, you must already have communication technology.’ Well, the Vice President is very kind, just like President Biden, because we have good relations with all the governments and with all the peoples of the world and Mexico is highly respected, but no, they too have not been able to give internet to all their peoples.
“So, technologically it does have a certain complexity. Antennas are required, fiber optics are required, which is a cable that goes along the line of the Federal Electricity Commission and it is advancing, and I hope that before the end of the government we will be able to communication over the internet,” he said.
