The protagonists of this work achieved with the film “Champions” the recognition of the Spanish cinema awards with capacities different from those of other actors.
Now they are together again, this time in the theater, immersed in a plot that has a lot to do with them.
One of the actors, José de Luna, recounts: “In a flat with Claudia, because she is our flat’s tutor and we are looking for work to be artists.”
Despite the differences between being in front of a camera or facing the public directly, they say they feel comfortable.
“It’s like I’m at home. It is “let yourself be carried away by the talent you have and show what you know how to do here on stage”, explains Gloria Ramos, another of the actresses.
One of his co-stars with 30 years of experience points out what is already evidence: the greater presence of people with disabilities in the performing arts
According to Emilio Gavira: “The fact that this is on stage, that the stage is actually like an altar that magnifies everything, seems wonderful to me and it has changed a lot and it is seen more and more and I am convinced that it will be seen more and more. plus.”
After passing through Madrid “Champions of comedy” will be on tour throughout Spain.
It is not just about a specific work. The greater visibility of people with disabilities in the theater is a consequence of public support with initiatives such as the inclusion days that have been held for a decade or the ‘A different look’ festival that concluded after having achieved its objective.
About 20% of the shows that the National Dramatic Center premiered last season were inclusive. The most successful was “Supernormales”, which deals with sex in people with disabilities.
Fefa Noia, deputy director of the National Drama Center, thinks that it is “very important to support creators with disabilities, but also to generate socially necessary debates. And all with indisputable artistic quality.”
Inclusive works from Latin America have also arrived in Spain, such as Hamlet by the Peruvian Chela de Ferrari.
