Final Fantasy 14’s upcoming Patch 6.2, called Buried Memory, will add the highly anticipated Island Sanctuary option, which allows players to collect materials, set up buildings, care for critters, and much more on their own island.
During the final Letter from the Producer Live broadcast for Final Fantasy 14, more was told about Island Sanctuary, which appears to be reminiscent of games like Animal Crossing and Stardew Valley and is described as “relaxed solo content” for which you have no previous crafting materials. or need experience.
Island Sanctuary was announced in 2021 and Final Fantasy 14 game director Naoki Yoshida shared more about what players can expect from this content.
“There are elements of exploring and building things,” Yoshida said. For example, you have something you want to build or you want to collect animals for the farm and you can keep them there. You can then also leave again to see weeds growing and that’s fine. You don’t have to keep track of it, but if you want to get started and spend every day on your island, that’s fine too.”
He also mentioned that players can invite each other to their Island Sanctuary. There aren’t any specific quests to do, or tasks for the main story, so it looks like it’s mostly a fun place to build up and meet friends. It is mainly a new way to play Final Fantasy 14, where of course there are also some items to earn.
Island Sanctuary and Patch 6.2 are slated to be released in late August, and will also add a new main story chapter, combat tweaks, system updates, and more. An 8-player raid called Pandæmonium will also be coming to the game and Duty Support will be expanded with main scenario dungeons.
