Alejandro Valverde was hit by a car during a training session on Saturday. The 42-year-old Spaniard had to go to hospital for treatment, but the damage is not that bad.
“He suffered no fractures or serious injuries from Saturday’s incident when he was driving with a teammate in Alcantarilla,” his team Movistar said.
The team’s notification comes after La Opinion of Murcia had written earlier in the day that Valverde and two other riders had been involved in a collision with a car. The driver then fled, the newspaper reported.
Valverde will remain under observation for 24 hours. After that, according to Movistar, he can normally leave the hospital.
The 2018 road world champion is in his final season. He is currently preparing for the Vuelta a España, which will start on August 19 in Utrecht.
