In June, a group of bad users of fixed and mobile telephony services was fined a total of S/ 25,300 for making false and malicious calls to emergency centers, according to the Ministry of Transport and Communications (MTC). .

In addition to this action, the Vice Minister of Communications, Virgilio Tito Chura, reported that the MTC carried out administrative processes (reprimands) to 66 telephone line owners for the same reason.

“The MTC rejects irresponsible actions that harm the operation of emergency centers and endanger the life and integrity of citizens. We call on the institutions that are in charge of the different emergency centers to continue reporting this type of fault in order to carry out the corresponding sanctions through the operating companies,” the official said.

It also reported that, in case of recurrence, the MTC can order the temporary cessation of service, which means that the reported lines will not be able to make calls or use their internet data for a period of 30 calendar days, as established by the Supreme Decree No. 020-2020-MTC.

According to the sanctioning regime, the MTC may also make the definitive cancellation and impose fines from S/ 2,300 to S/ 18,400 (equivalent to 4UIT) to the holders of said lines depending on the seriousness of the calls.

“Malicious communications hinder the proper functioning of emergency, urgency or information centers. This situation endangers the life and health of people, even more so in the current state of health emergency,” said the MTC representative.

The MTC once again urges citizens to avoid making malicious or false calls not only to avoid economic sanctions, but also because it harms citizens who really need help.

“Emergency numbers are not a game. We urge citizens to become aware and act with greater responsibility, since the MTC will continue to carry out actions to prevent this type of behavior through the campaign ‘If you release a line, you can save a life,'” said the official of the state entity.

The Ministry of Transport and Communications (MTC) suspended more than 11,000 lines during the pandemic due to their false calls to emergency stations.

According to the MTC, from March 2020 to January 2022, there were exactly 11,570 telephone lines, both fixed and mobile, which made malicious calls to the emergencies of the National Police of Peru, Civil Defense and EsSalud, among others.

The MTC reports record that 7,061 calls were disturbing and another 22,062 were silent.

The emergency centers most affected by incidents of malicious or false calls that have been identified and suspended are: line 105 of the National Police of Peru (5156), line 117 of EsSalud (4094), line 115 of Civil Defense (921) and 107 of EsSalud (440).

Similarly, line 113 of Info Salud (273), 106 of SAMU (243), 1818 of the Single Complaint Center (135), and line 100 of Complaint Family and sexual violence (129).

Emergency stations represent an opportunity to save the life of any citizen who may be in a dangerous situation. Therefore, the misuse of them is sanctioned.
