This Friday left Tapachula a new migrant caravan about 2 thousand peopleare destined for the United States and Most of them are Venezuelans.
It is the third caravan in less than 30 days that leaves the southern border and the ninth in the yearThey hope to take advantage of the suspension of the “Stay in Mexico” program as an alternative to enter the neighboring country to the north.
One of the organizers of the caravan, the Venezuelan Jonatan Ávila, said that they mobilize in honor of the migrant victims of the trailer in Texas: “because we all know that it is no secret to anyone that they were also fighting for a future, just like we are”.
In order to protect themselves from the sun and the heat of the asphalt, the migrants began the walk at dawn. All freely crossed the inspection area “Viva México“, on the outskirts of Tapachula, under the gaze of dozens of National Guard agents who stood without any attempt to intervene.
Jonathan Avila pointed out that even with documents some have been detained and returned to the southern border or deported when trying to get around on buses, that is why they propose a humanitarian corridor to reach the northern border.
The demand is that the Mexican Government help them with collective transport that takes them to Nuevo Leóna state that borders the nation north of the Rio Grande.
Alejandra Barrios, another member of the caravan, lamented the tragedy of the migrants in Texas and asked the government to help them so as not to expose them to “so painful” accidents. The also Venezuelan said that they make the trip to obtain the permit for even 30 days; “We don’t want to be in Mexico, we want to move forward,” she said.
Doris Perdomo, another Venezuelan, she travels with her two minor childrendoes so enthusiastically because she learned that President Joe Biden would allow the entry of migrants in the context of the suspension of the Stay in Mexico program. For a month the woman had been trying to carry out regularization procedures in Tapachula, and yesterday she heard on the news that Biden “gave free passage, that she is not going to return any migrant.”
According to the migrants themselves, in this caravan of two thousand people there would be about 400 pregnant women and a third of the total would be children.
These caravans reflect the record migratory flow to the United States, where the Customs and Border Protection Office (CBP) detected more than 1.7 million undocumented immigrants on the border with Mexico in fiscal year 2021, which ended the September 30 last.
