BUENOS AIRES (AP) — Banfield beat Boca Juniors with an alternative formation 3-0 this Friday at La Bombonera in a match for the sixth round of the Argentine league. Giuliano Galoppo at 20 minutes and Ramiro Enrique at 33 and 37 scored for Claudio Vivas’ team.
Boca coach Sebastián Battaglia decided to line up regular substitutes in this duel for the Argentine championship to preserve the starters. Boca will play the second leg of the Copa Libertadores round of 16 against Corinthians in Buenos Aires next Tuesday. In the first leg, they drew 0-0 in Sao Paulo.
Galoppo opened the scoring with a formidable goal. Ramiro Enrique centered at mid-height and the midfielder launched an unattainable crossed scissors.
Enrique, son of the world champion in Mexico 1986 Héctor Enrique, touched after Agustín Urzi’s low center for the second of the visit. Galoppo passed to Ramiro Enrique who defined strong up for the surprising 3-0 of the verdiblancos.
These three points allowed Banfield to climb to third position.
The Verdiblanco club defeated the xeneizes again after 12 years. The previous time it had also been 3-0, but at the Florencio Sola.
Also this Friday, Argentinos Juniors beat Central Córdoba 2-1 in Santiago del Estero. Nicolás Reniero opened the scoring for the red bugs. Jesús Soraire equalized for the locals and Miguel Torrén scored the second penalty for the visit. The victory allowed him to raise Gabriel Milito’s men to fourth place.
River Plate, which has just lost its Libertadores match away 1-0 against Vélez Sarsfield, will visit Huracán this Sunday. Newell’s Old Boys, the only leader, will receive the Board of Trustees on Monday.
