Since Mexico has not recovered Category 1 in civil aviationthe airline Volaris canceled its plans to fly from the Felipe Ángeles International Airport (AIFA) to the airport in Los Angeles, California.
By remaining in Category 2 in civil aviation, Mexican airlines cannot open new routes to the United Statesincrease frequencies or incorporate new aircraft.
During the inauguration of the new flights from Toluca, Enrique Beltranena, CEO of Volaris, said that it is unfortunate that the country has not been able to recover Category 1 in aviation safety and, given this situation, the flight they had planned to Los Angeles will not take place.
“The subject of the category is very unfortunate, it is a significant delay, but definitely the Los Angeles flight for the month of December is not going to leave”he indicated.
Beltranena commented that the planes that have not been able to use in the US market, are being used in other destinationsbut acknowledged that they have lost market share in passenger transport between Mexico and the United States.
During the week of June 13 to 17, the United States Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) made a technical visit to the Federal Civil Aviation Agency and there will be a final review in the coming months, but after seven technical reviews, Mexico has not been able to recover Category 1 in civil aviation.
This Friday, Volaris restarted its flights at the Toluca International Airport with seven departure flights and seven arrival flights, which will add 14 daily operations to this air terminal.
The destinations where Volaris will arrive from and to Toluca are: Guadalajara, Tijuana, Puerto Vallarta, Los Cabos, Huatulco and Cancun.
This is not the first time that the airline has operated in Toluca. In March 2006, Volaris began operations at this terminal.
“Toluca saw us born as an airline with the takeoff of our first flight, in which 140 passengers and five crew members born in the State of Mexico gave us the experience of flying to Tijuana, as the ultra-low-cost airline that changed national aviation. Beltranena stressed.
Volaris will offer one million seats per month in the Metropolitan Area of the Valley of Mexicowhich includes the airports of Toluca, Mexico City and Felipe Angeles.
The agreement to operate in Toluca is for 5 years to launch, compete and develop new routes.
The airline received incentives such as discounts on the Airport Use Fee (TUA), which makes its flights in Toluca 50% cheaper than in the International Airport of Mexico City.
On the other hand, Beltranena commented that the federal government has asked them to reduce their operations in the AICM by 10% by August 15 and another 10% by September 15, so they are reducing frequencies, but they are not eliminating any routes. to or from the AICM.
