A number of farmers blocked the start of the A1 near Oldenzaal with tractors on Wednesday. It concerns the road from the German border in the direction of Hengelo. According to a spokesperson for Rijkswaterstaat, it concerns “at least fifty tractors”.
Earlier, a spokesperson for the ANWB reported that the tractors only drove slowly but did not block the road. That is now the case and the A1 is closed.
The delay on the highway has increased to about half an hour. It is the third day in a row that farmers are campaigning against the government’s nitrogen policy.
Actions are also taking place elsewhere in the country, but they are on a smaller scale. Dozens of farmers, for example, have gathered with trucks and tractors at the provincial government in Leeuwarden to demonstrate. There are also a few dozen farmers at the provincial government in Zwolle, reports RTV East
Rutte stated on Wednesday morning that the police will take action against farmers who misbehave as at the home of Minister Christianne van der Wal (Nature and Nitrogen).
