Moscow, June 29. British citizen Shaun Pinner, sentenced to death in the self-proclaimed Donetsk People’s Republic (DPR), in eastern Ukraine, for fighting as a mercenary in the Ukrainian ranks, has appealed the sentence, his defense reported today.
“We have filed the appeal, which must be examined within two weeks. In case it is rejected, we will request a pardon,” Yulia Tserkóvnikova, Pinner’s lawyer, told the Russian agency Interfax.
Pinner, 48, along with another Briton, Aiden Aislin, 28, and Moroccan Braguim Saadun, were sentenced to death on the 9th of this month after being found guilty of fighting as mercenaries for Ukrainian forces.
The two Britons were captured in April during the Russian siege of the city of Mariúpol (Sea of Azov), while the Moroccan was taken prisoner a month earlier.
British Prime Minister Boris Johnson, who was “horrified” after learning of the death sentences imposed on Pinner and Aslin, asked his government to do everything possible to obtain their release. EFE
