Russell Crow will soon be seen as god Zeus in Thor: Love and Thunder (2022) and has already landed his next role: the lead role in a brand new supernatural thriller about a priest who performed thousands of exorcisms for the Vatican.
Based on memoirs of priest Amorth
Crowe plays this priest, the Italian Gabriele Amorth. This priest performed more than 100,000 exorcisms for the Vatican in real life. Father Amorth passed away in 2016, leaving behind a wealth of stories about his actions to take the devil out of people around the world. His story was recorded in the bestseller An Exorcist Tells His Story, which is now being made into a movie.
Changed director
The thriller is directed by Julius Avery, who previously directed war horror film overlord (2018) made. Originally, Ángel Gómez was attached to the project as a director, but studio Screen Gems replaced him with Avery. In addition to Crowe, the other lead roles are played by Chester Hastings, R. Dean McCreary and Evan Spiliotopoulos.

Before the shooting of The Pope’s Exorcist can start, Crowe must first complete his current projects. He is currently on the press tour of Thor: Love and Thunder after finishing the shooting of Sony’s Kraven the Hunter (2023). In addition, he has just finished recording his own directing project Poker Face (2022), which will premiere as early as October, and the actor will soon star alongside Zac Efron in The Greatest Beer Run Ever† Plenty of Crowe ahead, then.
It is not yet known when The Pope’s Exorcist will premiere.
