Party chairman Jursica Mills of BIJ1 resigns immediately. That writes The Parool based on an email that Mills sent to members of BIJ1 on Friday evening. The outgoing chairman can no longer continue because of “the toxicity, favoritism and contradictions in the party,” the newspaper quotes as saying.
Mills writes in the email that “members are eager to get justice until a decision doesn’t suit them.” In addition, party members would not want to take responsibility for their own behaviour.
“As a black woman, I have never been approached and treated so disrespectfully, not cleanly, with integrity or unjustified. And all under the guise of criticism,” Het Parool quotes.
It has been rumbling for some time within BIJ1, the party of Sylvana Simons. For example, last year there was a riot with party member Quinsy Gario, who would be expelled from the party because of “toxic behaviour”. Gario has always denied the allegations, but has resigned from the party.
Mills is not the first BIJ1 member to resign out of dissatisfaction with party culture. For example, the Hague board broke with the party in July 2021 because of the “toxic internal culture” in the national organization. The local politicians wrote that they were mistrusted. There was also a great lack of communication and transparency in the party.
The Amsterdam branch of the party threatened to disintegrate last month, but that was prevented at a members’ meeting.
