More than 250 elements of the Army arrived yesterday in the Sierra Tarahumara of Chihuahua to join the search for the alleged perpetrator of the assassination of the Jesuit priests Javier Campos Morales and Joaquin Mora Salazaridentified as José Noriel Portillo, alias “El Chueco”, alleged leader of “Los Salazar”, the armed wing of the Sinaloa Cartel, in the southern Chihuahuan highlands.
Sources from the federal security cabinet reported that they were deployed in various municipalities surrounding the town of Cerocahui, municipality of Urique, where the events occurred last Monday afternoon.
The objective of the military presence, highlighted the sources consulted, is also provide security to the population of that area of the state.
At the moment, the investigation of the case remains in charge of the Chihuahua Justice Prosecutor’s Office, which maintains a search operation for the alleged aggressor in conjunction with federal authorities.
