Lloyd Austinsecretary of defense USAcalled on Western countries to maintain their commitment to Ukraine and send the weapons they claim to resist the invasion of Russia.
“We have to step up our engagement,” Austin said at a meeting in Brussels. “We have to do even more to ensure that Ukraine can defend itself, its citizens and its territory.”
He added that they cannot “afford the luxury of lowering their arms and losing strength” since, as he stated, the stakes are too high. “Ukraine is facing a crucial moment on the battlefield,” she said.
In Austin’s vision, Russia’s attack on Ukraine “is not just a danger to Ukraine, but a threat to all European security“.
Rocket artillery would “increase” Ukraine’s military capabilities
The US secretary of defense added that Britain’s delivery of longer-range Himars rocket artillery and similar systems “would significantly increase the capacity“Ukrainian military.
Shortly before, the secretary general of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO), Jens Stoltenberg, stressed the “urgent need” to increase deliveries of modern weapons to Ukraine.
However, Stoltenberg warned that it will take time to train Ukrainian forces to use the new weapons.
“It is a fact that with the transition from Soviet-era weapons to the most modern NATO weaponsit will also take some time for Ukrainians to be ready to use and operate these systems,” he told a news conference.
