From June 10 to 20, Zapotlanejo will organize cultural festivities in the style of the Guelaguetza of Oaxacain which folk groups from different regions of that entity will participate.
The maximum festival of the Oaxacans approaches the Metropolitan Area of Guadalajara in the main square of Zapotlanejo.
“It is an honor to exchange cultural diversity, customs, gastronomy, crafts, and more, everything that enriches us mutually with Oaxaca,” said the municipal president of Zapotlanejo, Gonzalo Álvarez Barragán, at the exhibition of the activities of the Guelaguetza Zapotlanejo 2022 .
“Zapotlanejo is distinguished by its warm people, by the people who really want to join this work team and today we welcome our friends from Oaxaca to dress Zapotlanejo in color and tradition, following in the footsteps of the inhabitants of our sister state. , who fight every day not to lose their identity and their traditions”, he assured.
La Guelaguetza is the largest ethnic and cultural festival in Oaxacawhere there are folk, cultural and sports exhibitions.
One of the expressions of this maximum party is the offering to Oaxaca, made by representative groups of the seven traditional regions: The Central Valleys, the Sierra Juárez, La Cañada, Tuxtepec, La Mixteca, La Costa and the Isthmus of Tehuantepec.
The presentation in Zapotlanejo will be these 10 days, where there will be various cultural activities, as well as the sale of handicrafts and presentations of typical dances at no cost.
History of the Guelaguetza
The Guelaguetza was held for the first time in 1932, in order to restore tranquility to the Oaxacans who had recently suffered an earthquake in the region.
The origin comes from pre-Hispanic times, when the ancient inhabitants worshiped deities such as Centéotl, goddess of corn, through rituals that consisted of offering them dances and offerings that lasted a week.
