Hundreds of people demonstrated in Iran to demand justice after the partial collapse of a 10-storey shopping mall in Abadan on Monday. The death toll stands at least 28, but there are still dozens of victims in the rubble.
Family members with each passing day have less hope that they will survive. According to the authorities, some 13 people related to the construction of the building have been arrested.
In the first hours of the accident, authorities said there were “probably” about 80 people in the building, but later reduced the number to dozens, without specifying the exact number.
Many families are still waiting for news of their loved ones trapped under the rubble, but after 5 days they have less hope that they will survive, the local Iranian news agency ISNA reported.
The rescue operations faced difficulties due to the instability of the non-collapsed parts of the building, which among other reasons caused the slowness in the removal of the debris.
