Review site Trustpilot removed 2.7 million fake reviews last year. That amounts to 5.8 percent of the total number of reviews, the platform reports in a transparency report on Tuesday.
About 1.8 million reviews were detected and removed with special software. That is an increase of 190 percent compared to 2020.
Trustpilot sent 1,425 letters last year to companies that abused the platform. That is an increase of 38 percent compared to 2020. In twelve cases, measures have been taken against resellers of reviews.
Also, 121,048 automatic warnings were issued to companies that violated the guidelines. That is an increase of 210 percent compared to 2020.
Last year a record number of reviews were placed on Trustpilot: 46.7 million. That is a quarter of the total number of reviews since the launch of the platform in 2007. The Dutch left 2.1 million of them.
