What is the best Isofix car seat for toddlers? And which one has the best value for money? The Consumers’ Association answers.
By Consumers’ Association
Children up to 135 centimeters (that is about nine years old) are obliged to sit in a car seat in the Netherlands when they travel in the car. There are different types of seats: baby seats, toddler seats and children’s seats.
You choose the right type based on your child’s weight or height. There are models with a belt attachment and with Isofix attachment.
The Consumers’ Association tests car seats in various shapes and sizes for safety and ease of use, among other things. The Consumers’ Association test is more extensive than the legal admission test. A total of 195 car seats have been tested and are currently available online.
The toddler seats category is suitable for most children from about nine months to three to four years old. Among the seventeen tested toddler seats with Isofix attachment, a Cybex seat came out as Best in the Test. A chair from Joie is Best Buy.
Best in Test: Cybex Anoris T i-Size
The Cybex Anoris T i-Size is a very expensive chair. The safety score is at the level of rear-facing toddler seats. This is exceptional for seats that face the other way. This makes it a great alternative if you cannot or do not want to install a rear-facing seat.
The Anoris T i-Size is suitable for children from fifteen months (and a minimum of 76 cm) to about six years (115 cm). Although on the heavy side, the Cybex is still easy to use. However, with its 12 kilos, you will not want to take it out of the car very regularly. This one also takes up quite a bit of space.
But those who can live with that will have an excellent and safe toddler seat with the Cybex Anoris T i-Size. A child in this toddler seat sits comfortably, because it is a fairly spacious seat. You can take your child with you in an average toddler seat until it is approximately 1 meter (105 cm). You can use the Anoris longer (115 cm, up to about six years).
Best Buy: Joie i-Spin 360 E
This toddler seat from Joie i-Spin has a somewhat lower test result, but is a lot cheaper than the Cybex. It offers good protection in a frontal impact and very good protection in a side impact.
You first use this seat looking backwards. When your child is older, you turn the seat and it can be used forward-looking.
Although your child has a lot of space in the Joie i-Spin 360 E, the leg support is not ideal. In addition, the view is limited. In addition, with almost 14 kilos, this seat is even heavier than the Cybex that is Best in the Test.
On the other hand, cleaning the Joie i-Spin 360 E is easier, because the seat cover is easy to remove. You can wash the cover in the washing machine.
In this column we write weekly about household and technological appliances that have been tested by the Consumers’ Association. This is a collaboration between the independent editors of this site and the Consumers’ Association.
The Consumers’ Association tests thousands of products every year, together with qualified technicians in specialized laboratories at home and abroad. The products being tested are store bought so they are not pre-manipulated by manufacturers.
New models are tested as soon as possible after introduction. How fast that is varies per product. The Best in Test is the product with the best test rating, which is readily available. This can also be a somewhat older model, because a newer model is not always better. The Best Buy is the product with the best value for money.
The stated price of a product is the lowest retail price currently known to the Consumers’ Association. But prices can vary per day. If no recent retail price is known, the target price is quoted.
