East Africa has been at risk of famine for a long time and the crisis is only getting worse. About 23 million people in the countries of Somalia, Kenya and Ethiopia are extremely hungry.
The drought in the area is the worst in 40 years. In the past three rainy seasons there has been far too little rain, which means that little food grows. Children also suffer from it.
The United Nations thinks that 4.2 billion euros is needed for sufficient food, water and medicines. But so far only a small part has been brought together by rich countries.
