“It is very possible that the first tropical system could develop and reach the category of a tropical storm in the next weekend. In case the tropical storm that is expected for this weekend develops, it will have the name of ¨ Alex¨”, informed Méndez Girdón.
Due to the natural phenomenon La Niña, present in the Pacific, there will be more cyclonic activity in the Atlanticso it is estimated that the first tropical cyclone will develop in the Atlantic, in the Mexican Caribbean, since the sea has a temperature of 28 degrees Celsius, explained the head of the Meteorological.
Girdón also reported that the 2022 tropical cyclone season will be active, since up to 40 named cyclones are expected to form this year.
He added that it is estimated that of all tropical cyclones generatedboth in the Atlantic and in the Pacific, at least five will impact the country.
“The cyclones that impact, or that are expected to impact in 2022, on the Pacific side, are expected to have the greatest number in the month of August. In the case of the Atlantic, they are expected to be in the month of September,” he added.
