Michael van Gerwen failed to reach the semi-final of the Czech Darts Open on Sunday. The three-time world champion lost 4-6 to Englishman Luke Humphries in the quarterfinals.
The match between Van Gerwen and Humphries started with four breaks. The Englishman then took another break in the seventh leg and did not relinquish the victory.
Van Gerwen achieved an average of 95.65 per three arrows and a finish percentage of 50 in Prague. Humphries compared this with an average of 98.65 and a finish percentage of 40.
Due to the defeat of Van Gerwen, Vincent van der Voort is the only remaining Dutchman in the tournament. ‘The Dutch Destroyer’ will take on Czech Adam Gawlas later in the evening.
The tournament in the Czech Republic is the sixth event on the European Tour this year. Van Gerwen won the last two, in Austria and the German Leverkusen.
